A logo has no meaning if you fail to deliver on the promises you make.
What is a logo?
According to Wikipedia a logo (abbreviation of logotype, from Greek: λόγος logos “word” and τύπος typos “imprint”) is a graphic mark, emblem, or symbol commonly used by commercial enterprises, organizations and even individuals to aid and promote instant public recognition. Logos are either purely graphic (symbols/icons) or are composed of the name of the organization (a logotype or wordmark).
On my personal and humble opinion; it is a form of identity and a way for the world to start knowing about you and your company. A logo has no meaning if you fail to deliver on the promises you make, a logo only helps to convey what you want to tell the world. “You are who defines what you are, not your logo”. Check the 1988’s logo for Nike (Design by: Carolyn Davidson) for instance:
Prior to 1988 Nike logo was like this below:
After 1988 Nike logo has been like this below:.
Hi everyone:) Can you tell me what I do? People call me Nike.
Notice: that after the 1988 year this company dropped the “NIKE” word on top of the swoosh symbol.
The point here is, if this shoe company wasn’t committed to delivering an excellent product for your feet to wear. This company would’ve gone under a long time ago. They let their product do the talk for them and look at them now, they’re more than just a shoe company they are a multimillion company that also provides clothing sporting wear. This is a perfect example of what I mention above: “You are who defines what you are, not your logo”
When people see this logo on any Nike product they purchased this gives them a piece of mind, because they feel they obtained a good product.
When I started my advertising agency in 2012 I wanted to be different from all other agencies in town, therefore; I built it upon the following mission and belief…
Our Mission – We are committed to take personal responsibility and undivided attention to each one of our client’s marketing & advertising campaigns. Find the best marketing & advertising solutions while keeping in mind best quality and accuracy at a low-cost without compromising your business’ image.
I honor this motto by delivering to my clients what I state on Our Mission. By doing this, it defines me, what’s more; when they see my logo out-there they not only know who that marketing agency is, but what that marketing agency does for them.
In conclusion, what I’d like to say to you and my clients is…Build your company upon a way in how to deliver good service and/or products to your current and potential clients. Don’t break your head trying to come up with the perfect design of your company’s logo, your logo should not be a distraction. What you should concentrate better is on becoming a solution to your client’s needs.
Respectfully,
Rutilio
